Sophie Brassard, CO
Game Plan Advisor, INS Quebec
How can I help you?
"I can help you with decisions regarding your future, your sport and school balance as well as your professional transition."
Why do I love my job as a Game Plan Advisor?
" I have the opportunity to work with inspiring people. It also allows me to give those people a place where they can talk without worry of judgment, where they can be vulnerable, and talk about their fears and their dreams."
Skills and Specialties
Sophie is a Career Counsellor who has been supporting the career development and transition needs of athletes at the Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) since 2011. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières as well as a Master’s Degree in Guidance Counselling from the Université de Sherbrooke, where she focused her thesis on the identity changes of transitioning athletes. A former competitive gymnast and a part of the Sherbrooke cheerleading team at the club and university levels, Sophie saw firsthand all the personal and professional challenges her fellow teammates faced during their transition away from sport. She also saw how little access to career transition resources and guidance these fellow athletes had back then, which inspired her to make this area her life’s work. She is currently completing her PhD on the subject of sport transition.
She is widely recognized for her expertise in this field and has presented talks on the topic at a number of provincial and national conferences, including the Forum Équipe Québec, Alliance Sport-Études, and the Fédération de Gymnastique du Québec. And finally, if Sophie looks familiar, that’s because she was featured as the resident counselling expert on two episodes of Télé-Québec’s “Ma vie après le sport”.
